Dedicated to protecting and conserving the unique natural heritage of the Timmins area since 1999.
The Wintergreen Fund for Conservation was established to protect and preserve the remarkable natural environments in and around Timmins, Ontario. Our organization emerged from a community-wide recognition that our local ecosystems—the forests, lakes, rivers, and wildlife—are irreplaceable treasures that deserve protection.
Named after the wintergreen plant, a hardy native species that thrives in our northern boreal forests, we embody the resilience and perseverance needed for long-term environmental stewardship.
Over the years, we have grown from a small grassroots initiative into a respected conservation organization, partnering with local government, schools, businesses, and community groups to achieve our mission.
The Wintergreen Fund for Conservation aims to protect and conserve the community's unique natural heritage and environment. We encourage conservation education and environmental appreciation within the community, raising funds and providing financial support to initiatives that enhance the local environment.
We envision a Timmins region where natural ecosystems thrive alongside vibrant communities, where every resident appreciates and actively participates in environmental stewardship, and where future generations inherit a landscape as rich and diverse as the one we enjoy today.
Our conservation efforts are focused on the magnificent Mattagami and Porcupine watershed region, encompassing thousands of square kilometers of pristine boreal forest, crystal-clear lakes, and flowing rivers.
This ecologically significant area is home to diverse wildlife including moose, black bears, wolves, and over 200 species of birds. The Mattagami River, in particular, hosts one of North America's most important sturgeon populations—a species we actively work to protect and restore.
We support projects and programs that promote community conservation, enhance the local environment, and contribute to community economic growth, including sustainable eco-tourism initiatives that allow visitors to experience our natural wonders.
